Curriculum Vitae of Peter George Skinner
Currently a consultant to SuperValuers Pty Ltd, an online company specialising in the valuation of defined benefit interests, and a consultant to ComSuper, the Commonwealth organisation administering superannuation schemes for federal public servants and the military.
From 1992 to 2003, I was the Deputy Commissioner of Superannuation and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ComSuper. My executive position in that organisation gave me a wide exposure to all issues concerning superannuation policy and its implementation. Running ComSuper as a business was part of my responsibilities. In 1996, I was awarded a Senior Executive fellowship that directly led to an international forum for comparison of superannuation administrators.
Prior to joining ComSuper, I spent 14 years in Defence with 8 of those years in Executive positions including responsibility for Defence budgets and superannuation. I spent 2 years in London in the UK Ministry of Defence. My last years in Defence were as Secretary to the Review of Superannuation that resulted in the establishment of the Military Superannuation Scheme.
Prior to Defence, I worked as a Senior Cost Investigator for 6 years in Sydney.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Economics (University of Tasmania 1973)
- Master of Commerce (University of NSW 1976)
- Qualified on 22 May 2003 under ASIC PS 146 for Authorised Representatives in the following areas:
- financial planning
- superannuation
- managed investments
Membership
- elected member of the NSW Divisional Executive of Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) from 1994 to 2003 and honorary Treasurer from 1998
- member of the ACT Chapter of ASFA from 1994 to 2003
- member of the Australian Society of Certified Public Accountants since 1976
- member of the Super EC Council from 2000 to 2003
